Director, Supply Chain

Seres Therapeutics is well-positioned to become the first company to bring a microbiome drug to patients through our proprietary discovery and design platform.  We identify key alterations in the microbiome that are associated with specific diseases, and are designing live bacterial ecologies as therapeutics.  We are conducting multiple clinical trials including a recently started Phase III study.  Seres is a dynamic and well-financed biotechnology company located in Cambridge, MA.

You will lead a dynamic team focused on supporting the manufacturing and distribution of microbiome therapeutics through procurement, warehousing, and logistics.  You’ll manage the daily operations of the team to enable execution of strategic clinical manufacturing milestones, while also building and growing programs with an eye towards a commercial GMP future state.

If you are interested in leading a team running critical procurement, warehousing, and logistics operations under highly fluid, rapidly changing conditions– this job is for you! You’ll enjoy a diverse role as you work closely with various groups, including Bioprocess Development, Manufacturing Operations, Clinical Supplies, Manufacturing Engineering & Technology, Facilities Engineering & Operations, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance, to ensure all types of materials are procured, appropriately stored, and distributed where they are needed, in a compliant manner. In addition, you’ll work closely with external vendors to manage relationships, negotiate pricing and terms, and resolve issues.  You’ll use your well-developed communication skills in monitoring and enforcing requirements with all vendors and as you work with internal stakeholders at all levels.  You will be motivated to have a career development plan that includes substantive and meaningful growth opportunities, supported by an array of coaches the extends beyond your direct supervisor – we invest in YOU!  You’ll have experience working with some or all the following, as they relate to supply chain management:

  • Inventory and Enterprise Resource Management systems
  • Procurement systems
  • Critical logistics, including import/export, cold chain, and time-sensitive shipping
  • External vendors, including critical material suppliers and contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs)
  • Warehouse materials management, including receipt, storage, issuance, and shipping, preferably at multiple sites
  • Standard operating procedures
  • Quality systems (change control, deviations, corrective and preventive actions, document control)
  • Experience with Lean, Kanban, Just-In-Time logistics, Continuous Improvement, etc. are a plus

The other stuff

This is typically a role best suited for supply chain professionals with substantial experience working in and managing a cGMP supply chain, with appropriate education and training to support those experiences. Experience managing both people and small projects is a must.  You must be able to demonstrate both leadership and a willingness to step in and get the job done. You have strong written and oral communication skills, enabling you to clearly describe problems, propose plans, and implement resolutions and improvements with cross-functional stakeholders.  To be successful, you’ll be independently motivated, able to work under aggressive and meaningful objectives, comfortable in a highly fluid environment, detail oriented, and possess good problem solving abilities. You’ll possess confidence and poise managing internal and external partnerships with an emphasis on excellent customer service.
