Senior Scientist, Microbiology Analytical Development

Department: Analytical Development
Location: Cambridge, MA

What’s in it for you?

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in an industry-leading group to address the unique analytical challenges posed by the entirely new field of microbiome therapeutics. You will be asked to think differently about how to measure therapeutic potency, purity, identity, and stability, and to drive your ideas towards concrete results that can help move products from discovery through clinical development with a line of sight towards commercialization.  You will dive deeply into the analytical technologies that we have developed in-house for our therapeutic programs, and spearhead the development of novel methods for product characterization, process understanding and development, and clinical release.

Seres Therapeutics is a tight-knit and high-energy community of scientists and engineers with a positive culture built on transparent and engaging interactions between functional groups. In this role you will have the opportunity to interact not only with the Bioprocess Development team (Upstream, Downstream, and Formulation Development), but also with other CMC groups (Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Manufacturing) to aid in assay and technology transfer efforts.  Additionally, you will partner closely with Research and Development (Microbiology, Molecular Technologies, Disease-specific leaders, and Bioinformatics experts) to identify and develop novel assays that can help drive value creation for the company. Finally, you will have the opportunity to mentor staff in the analytical development group, providing strong scientific guidance on all of our key analytical activities and projects.

How do you know if you’re the right fit?

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive, collaborative, curious, and results-oriented.  If you are the type of person who is willing to dive both into the lab and the literature to answer key questions that will help move our products closer to patients, then we would love to hear from you. We’re an ambitious, clinical-stage company, so it will help if you’re very comfortable in a fast-paced environment working on multiple projects with shifting priorities based on a combination of business strategy, regulatory feedback, and pre-clinical data.  Molecular microbiologists with excellent quantitative skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

The other stuff

We’re looking for PhD level scientists with 1-5 years of experience with skills in analytical microbiology and molecular biology. Strong quantitative capabilities combined with excellent writing and communication skills are big pluses. Specific experience with general microbiological methods, including viability measurements, microbial growth and selective strategies, flow cytometry, and microscopy would be valuable.  Additionally, a background in general molecular methods (quantitative PCR, sequencing, etc.) would be helpful. This role will report to the Head of Analytical Development in the CMC department.
