Fermentation Scientist I - Bioprocess Development

What’s in it for you? 

You will have the opportunity to join a dynamic Bioprocess Development group accepting the challenge to develop processes for microbiome therapeutics, and to enable clinical investigation of this exciting new class of therapies. This role will contribute to the design, development, and demonstration of new fermentation technologies for a wide variety of microorganisms.

You’ll establish yourself as a Subject Matter Expert in upstream process development of anaerobic microbial strains commonly found in the human microbiome, with emphasis on developing new methods for investigating microbial cultivation and induction via small scale platforms. You will be an integral part of a small but dynamic team responsible for all aspects of upstream and downstream process development for therapies across the Seres portfolio. 

Our group is at the center of the ground-breaking work at Seres Therapeutics. You will partner with groups across Microbiology, Bioinformatics, Analytical Development, and Formulations to incorporate best-in-class technology. Further, you will work closely with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory and participate in key cross-function teams which form the backbone of our drug development strategies.

We are looking for candidates who are great team players and independent thinkers. Who are enthusiastic about new challenges, and who proactively identify problems and provide solutions. You have technical experience with microbial cultivation (strict anaerobic bacteria a plus) and applying advanced technology to the application of process optimization.  


This is typically a role best suited for Ph.D. level candidates plus 0-2 years of experience in chemical engineering, bioprocess engineering, microbiology, etc. - preferably with experience stretching across multiple types of organisms. Candidates should have experience with various software incorporating fermentation monitoring and control, statistical analysis, and process modeling. Strong communication skills are important as are basic microbiological laboratory skills are expected.
